At the official reveal event, Slate reps shared that the truck is meeting 5 star safety rating goals in their early internal crash testing. :like:

The Slate comes standard with active emergency braking, forward collision warning and rear backup camera.

This was what made me go all in! I have wanted to pull the trigger on a Kei truck for a long time but the lack of safety features has always been a major sticking point.

That's great to hear. With the Chief Engineering going on record about this in the reveal press event, they must be confident that the Slate will achieve 5 star crash safety rating in independent testing.

My 14 year old has always wanted a Kei truck. As a parent I’ve cringed about that. I’m looking at the Slate as a viable alternative. He turns 16 in 2026.

As advertised, I believe this would be a wonderful first vehicle. It has some of the same characteristics of the 91 Toyota pickup I gave my son for his first: relatively slow, small passenger compartment, simple to work on, and relatively affordable. But also (hopefully) reliable and cheap to operate and insure, with less risk of buying someone else's problems in a used car.

I'll be very interested in seeing the results of the crash tests. I'm looking forward to the Slate as it's only 30'' longer than my 90s compact truck WITHOUT the downside of it being built like a rolling kleenex box!
