Slate Auto is currently advertising for facility engineers and other production staff. Slate HQ is in Troy, Michigan but the jobs are somewhere else in the "Central Midwest". Ads say:I haven't seen any info released yet about where the Slate Auto Pickup would be produced? Will Rivian be producing the Slate pickup truck, or maybe Slate Auto will contract with another manufacturer?
Or will Slate Auto actually builds its own plant? I'd be shocked.![]()
Rumors claim somewhere near Indianapolis. State records indicate that Slate Auto has retained the services of an Indiana-registered lobbyist, Barnes & Thornburg LLP.Central Midwest location in a highly desirable mid-size community. Must be willing to relocate to Slate manufacturing plant location. This position is not in Troy, MI/Metro Detroit
Thanks for the info @YDR37. It's a weird decision (at least to me) when a direct-to-consumer car company chooses a state (if it's Indiana) that doesn't allow direct vehicle sales. It's like Scout Motors picking South Carolina for their plant.Slate Auto is currently advertising for facility engineers and other production staff. If Slate is looking at Indiana, then that would rule out Rivian. Rivian's existing plant is in Normal, Illinois, with a second one under construction near Atlanta.
Or like Tesla putting their factory and HQ in Texas. They seem to have workarounds; I think Texans technically buy Teslas located in other states, which are then delivered to Texas. It's a weird decision (at least to me) when a direct-to-consumer car company chooses a state (if it's Indiana) that doesn't allow direct vehicle sales.
